WINGS Program Credits Should be Valid for 24 Months

March 3, 2011 · By Paul Burger 2Comments

Together we can make a difference.

Please join me in advocating a change in the WINGS Program validation period. Our argument is that it should be consistent with the Flight Review 24 month requirement. For example, in the trailing twenty four month period, 03/01/2009 thru 2/28/2011, this change would have allowed an additional 133,728 aviators time to complete their Basic WING.

If you agree, please cut, paste, and send the message below to Kevin Clover today, with a cc: to me - thanks.

Subject line: The WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program designations and credits should be valid for 24 months

Dear Kevin,

Please make the WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program more user friendly by amending the credit and designation validation period from the existing 12 months to 24 months, to be consistent with the Flight Review requirement.

Thanks,

Capt. Kevin. Yes, I feel the Wings program should be easier to all of us, PPL as well as the CFII. Some CFI's don't have a PC, and my BFR will not be send to the FSDO. How could my BFR /wings be credited otherwise?
    Thank you very much.
    Sincerely, Joe.

    Paul:
I am going to take the opposite view on this issue. Rather than extending credits to 24 months, we should reduce them to 3 months. The whole point of the Wings Pilot Proficiency Program is to encourage pilots to be more active and to reinforce the value of continuous learning. Since credits are free, and most courses take 20 minutes to an hour online to complete, or better yet attend one in person at a nearby airport, there is no reason the average pilot cannot stay 90 day "ground" current (like landing currency...) with minimal effort. The flying component is a bonus. Keeping pilots active and flying will keep safety, and fun, on the forefront.
    Respectfully,
