The WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program

The WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program is designed to help each pilot construct on educational curriculum suitable for their unique flight requirements. It encourages pilots to continue their aviation educational pursuits that require review, education and flight proficiency in the Areas of Operation found in current Practical Test Standards (PTS) that correspond with the leading accident causal factors in the United States.

Further, the program encourages participation in the FAASTeam locally offered events and seminars, as well as the national WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program. Industry Members establish regular recurrent training programs within their organizations and areas of influence to help all pilots reach their highest potential and maintain a high level of safety and proficiency.

WHAT WE DO ON THE GROUND REALLY MATTERS

FAASTeam Website

The FAA has evidence that "Pilots who participate in the WINGS PILOT PROFICIENCY PROGRAM are safer pilots." Our goal is to help the FAASTeam increase attendance at WINGS seminars and events.

The Advocates for Aviation Safety Foundation (AFASF) is committed to personally contact all "GA" pilots from lists provided, to inform them of the benefits of the Advocates NewsBug.

                         The Nall Report

The recently published Nall Report shows that the numbers of both total and fatal GA accidents in 2005 were virtually unchanged compared to 2004. Unfortunately, the accident rates per 100,000 flight hours for both increased to 7.2 and 1.4 (from 6.4 and 1.3 in 2004), respectively. A significant finding of the 2006 Nall Report was the increase in fatal maneuvering flight accidents; in 2005 there were 80 such incidents vs. 52 in 2004. Reading the Nall Report is an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others.
